Scorpion Pest Management

2023 AEPMA Inaugural Business Sustainability Award WinnerScorpion Pest Management

Pesticon 2023 was an appropriate and popular occasion for announcing the winner.  Tracey and Jason Eyles from Scorpion Pest Management in Tasmania took the title and were found to be a very worthy recipient.

In their acceptance speech they commented;

“We are so incredibly proud of this achievement; it reinforces that we are making a difference and that our efforts have not gone unnoticed. This award not only honours the past but also propels us into the future, inspiring us to continue pushing boundaries, exploring new horizons, and striving for environmental sustainability.”

Their quest to focus their efforts on transforming Scorpion Pest Management into a more sustainable pest control business began in 2019, with their 'Keen to Get Green Campaign'. The mission was simple, to reduce their carbon footprint as much as possible while retaining the effectiveness of their pest control services. To do this, they looked for more ecologically friendly solutions.

Some of their winning initiatives are as follows:

  • Reduce our carbon footprint
  • Increased communication and awareness of our efforts and fostering responsible environmental behaviour amongst employees and users at all levels.
  • Collaboration with other businesses, practices and experiences, which include discussing ideas for reducing waste, conserving water, and maximising energy efficiency.
  • We partner with a waste management company to improve recycling and waste reduction efforts.
  • Plus, we partner with local communities and organisations to support sustainability efforts, which involves funding community environmental programs, volunteering, participating in local clean-up, and conservation projects.
  • Our success is via education, leading by example, providing support and feedback on practices that are not ethically right, and by advocating for sustainable approaches.
